1890 Freddie Keppard, American jazz cornetist, in the 1910s the greatest jazz cornetist, covered right hand to hide his technique form erstwhile copiers, known for a staccato style, born in New Orleans, Louisiana.

1936 Tony Fisher, British trumpeter and bandleader, played with the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, The Beatles (Strawberry Fields Forever), many famous singers, active teacher at many music schools, heard on hundreds of films, born in Manchester, England.

1944 Jim Olcott, American trumpeter, teacher at Miami University of Ohio, principal trumpet in the Ballet Orchestra of Cincinnati, administrative presence in the ITG (up to president), receiving the ITG Award of Merit in 2005, owner of Triplo Press, born in Berkeley, California.

1944 Joe Phelps, American trumpeter, trumpet teacher and band director at Appalachian State University, born in Conway, Arkansas.

1966 Rex Richardson, renowned American jazz and classical soloist, lead trumpet and soloist with the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, member of Rhythm & Brass, teacher at Virginia Commonwealth University, frequent special guest soloist at festivals, born in Martinez, California.

2003 Ameen Muhammad, American trumpeter and composer, died in Chicago, Illinois.
