1875 John Dolan, American cornetist, member of the band on Governor's Island, member of Conway's Band, first chair cornet and assistant conductor with the Sousa band, teacher at Ithaca college, recording soloist, born in Schuyler Falls, New York.

1908 Hot Lips Page, American jazz trumpeter, member of the Walter Page's Blue Devils, Bennie Moten's band, formed his own band at the Onyx Club, member of Artie Shaw's band, recorded hit version of Baby It's Cold Outside with Pearl Bailey, born in Dallas, Texas.

1925 Art Depew, American jazz trumpeter and bandleader, member of the Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey bands, many California bands, active studio musician and arranger, leader of the Harry James ghost band, born in West Palm Beach, Florida.

1943 Léon Pétré, Belgian trumpeter, teacher at the Lemmens Institute in Louvain, principal trumpet of the Collegium Instrumentale Brugense, Musica Polyfonia and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, member of the Xenakis Ensemble, born in Saint-Truiden, Belgium

1952 Julius Gustav Wachs, Estonian trumpeter, recipient of the Franz Schubert Prize (a silver cornet), member of the Petrograd Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Symphony Orchestra and the Yalta Symphony Orchestra, principal of the Tallinn Symphony Orchestra, teacher at the Tallinn Conservatory (1929 to 1952), died in Suure-Janinn, Estonia.

1954 Philip Norris, American trumpeter, teacher at Northwestern College in St. Paul, publisher of Top 50 Orchestral Excerpts for Trumpet, born in York, Pennsylvania.

1957 Dan Oxley, American trumpeter, Christian musician, recording engineer, born in Tokyo, Japan.

1959 Jeff Bailey, American trumpeter, member of the Nashville Contemporary Brass Quintet (1980-1988), teacher at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, freelance artist with the Chris McDonald Orchestra, Nashville Jazz Machine, principal of the Nashville Symphony, recording artist, born in Kingsport, Tennessee.

1965 Jean-Luc Richard, French trumpeter, member of Les Trompettes de Lyon, teacher in, and head of, the Vincent d'Indy music school, born in Bourg en Bresse, France.

1965 Fabiano Manier, Italian trumpeter, member of the Toscanini Orchestra in Parma, Tuscany Regional Orchestra, Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano, Veneto and Padua Orchestra, Pameriggi Muicali Orchestra in Milan, and others, principal trumpet in the orchestra of the theatre "La Fenice" in Venice, member of I Soloist Veneti, teacher at the C. Pollini Conservatory of Music in Padova, solo recording artist, born in Piove di Sacco, Italy.

1967 Carl Naumann, German trumpeter, principal trumpet of the Orchestra of Libau in Russia and in the music corps of the 153rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd trumpet of the Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig (1905-1943), recorded cornet solo Die Teufelszunge in 1928, died in Grimma, Germany.

1990 Tony Faso, American jazz trumpeter, member of the Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and The Dorsey Brothers bands, television recording artist, died in Tamarac, Florida.

1997 Marinus Komst, Dutch trumpeter, member of the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, principal of the Concertgebouw Orchestra (1934-1972), member of the Koper Quartet, died inn Amsterdam, Netherlands.
