This Day In Trumpet History

1887 Arthur Laycock, British cornetist, principal cornet of the St. Hilda's Band, in WWI member of the 16th Durham Light Infantry, winner of forty band medals, three silver challenge cups, four Championship Crystal Palace Medals, command performances for the King and Queen of England, born in Todmorden, England.

1941 Bobby Shew, American jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist, member of the NORAD Jazz Band, toured with Woody Herman's Thundering Herd, member of Buddy Rich's band, LA studio player with numerous television credits, performed and recorded with dozens of big bands during the 1970s and 80s as a jazz soloist and lead player, born in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

1943 Jeff Stern, American trumpeter, freelancer in the Boston area, principal trumpeter in the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra (Halifax, Nova Scotia), born in Manhattan, Kansas.

1966 Murray Greig, British trumpeter, performed with the English Northern Philharmonia, Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, BBC Philharmonic, many studio orchestra, baroque trumpet with Northern Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Orchestra of the Golden Age, hosted the 2002 ITG Conference in Manchester, born in Leamington Spa, England.
