I had many wonderful collaborations with the Washington Bach Consort. Some of my most favorite were the noontime cantata series at the Church of the Epiphany in Northwest Washington, DC. In 2003, Reilly Lewis, the late conductor and founder of the WBC, programmed Cantata 136–“Erforsche mich, Gott, und erfahre mein Herz.” There is a very high horn part (horn in A) in the first movement, so Reilly asked me to play it. This performance was on modern instruments, so I chose to play it on D trumpet with a flugelhorn mouthpiece.
