This Day In Trumpet History

1908 Charlie Allen, American trumpeter, starting at 17 played with several bands including Earl Hines, Duke Ellington, during 40s and 50s played in Chicago, developed custom mouthpieces, born in Jackson, Mississippi.

1936 Edward Llewellyn, American cornetist and trumpeter, son of James Llewellyn (cornetist of note), soloist with the U.S. Marine Band (1905-06), principal trumpet with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (1907-09), the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (1909-11), Chicago Opera Company (1911-12) and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1912-33), composer of more than 25 cornet solos, including My Regards, champion bicyclist, wrestler, boxer, golfer, died in Monahans, Texas.

1954 Victor Jones, American jazz trumpeter, played with rock bands by age 15, played later with Stan Getz, Woody Shaw, Freddie Hubbard, and many others, founded Victor Jones R & B-Bob Band (1991), born in Newark, New Jersey.
