Josef Kail, Czech hornist and instrument designer, associated with instrument maker Joseph Felix Riedl in Vienna, co-inventor of the “Vienna valve,” professor of valve trumpet and valve trombone at the Prague Conservatory, composer of the first-ever solo pieces for valved trumpet and piano (notably his Variationen für die Trumpet in F, premiered by his student Karl Chlum in 1827, died in Prague, Czech Republic.
