Lee Morgan, highly influential American jazz trumpeter, studied with Clifford Brown and Ted Curson, played with Dizzy Gillespie’s band, led is own groups and recorded six albums in the late 1950s for Blue Note, joined Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, forced to leave Blakey’s group because of drug addiction, curbed addition through help of Helen More (his older girlfriend) and recorded The Sidewinder (1963) with his own group, re-joined Blakey, cheated on his girlfriend with a younger woman and was shot by girlfriend More in Slug’s jazz club, died at the age of 34 in New York, New York.
