This Day in History: 1929-03-03

Dupree Bolton, American trumpeter, at age 14 toured with Jay McShann’s band and shortly thereafter became a drug addict, put in a hospital prison for four years, began playing again, but arrested again for forging checks to pay for drugs, arrested a third time and sentenced to three-year term, recorded “The Fox” with Harold Land (a landmark recording), arrested a fourth time and sent to San Quentin Prison, upon release recorded with Curtis Amy an album called Katanga!, arrested again for 15 years, lived as street musician after that, born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
