Charles Tolliver, American trumpeter, studied pharmacy but dropped out to play in the 1960s with Jackie McLean, Joe Henderson, Archie Sheep, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Roy Haynes and many other great jazz artists, formed his own quartet called Music Inc., voted top trumpeter in Downbeat’s Critics Choice poll (1968), born in Jacksonville, Florida.
