This Day in History: 1841-03-10

Victor Mahillon, Belgian instrument maker, founded a music journal (L’Echo musical; 1869-86), curator of the Brussels Conservatory Museum, made straight cornetto to be played in Gluck’s Orphée, made high D trumpets in 1870, patented the compensating valve system, invented the piccolo trumpet in B-flat (played by Théo Charlier), published an important treatise titled Éléments d’Acoustique Musicale, born in Brussels, Belgium.
