Ernie Royal, American jazz lead trumpeter, played in Navy during WWII, lead trumpet with Count Basie, Woody Herman’s Second Herd, went to Paris and played with Jacques Hellian, returned to the US to play with Stan Kenton and Gil Evans, died in NYC.
