Billy Butterfield, American jazz trumpeter, joined Bob Crosby’s orchestra at age 20, recording on I’m Free was famous (1940), joined Artie Shaw’s band after appearing in movie with Artie Shaw, well-known for Stardust recording, joined Benny Goodman and Les Brown, then staff musician for NBC and CBS in Hollywood, after service in WWII, formed own band, went back to studios, moved to Florida, played traditional jazz music, died in North Palm, Florida.
