This Day in History: 1973-04-12

Ryan Kisor, American jazz trumpeter, learned to play from his father at age five, at age 15 joined the Eddie Skeets Orchestra, won trumpet division of the first Thelonious Monk Institute’s jazz competition at age 17, attended the Manhattan School of Music studying with Lew Soloff, has performed with the Mingus Big Band, Gil Evans Orchestra, Charlie Haden’s Liberation Orchestra, and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (since 1994), born in Sioux City, Iowa.
