Adolph (“Bud”) Herseth, American trumpeter, one of the greatest orchestral trumpeters of all time, served as principal in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for 53 years, was quarterback and valedictorian in high school, received degrees in mathematics and music and minors in physics and education in college (Luther College), played in the U.S. Navy Music Program during WWII, attended New England Conservatory after the War, studying with Marcel Lafosse and George Mager, being influenced to play the C trumpet, won principal in Chicago in 1947, soon shaping the sound of the brass section, died in Oak Park, Illinois.
