Karl George, American trumpeter, joined KcKinney’s Cotton Pickers and played with Cecil Lee and the Jeter-Pillars Orchestra, lead trumpet with Teddy Wilson’s big band and Lionel Hampton (1941-42), one of first African-Americans to play in Stan Kenton’s orchestra (1943), played with Benny Carter, Count Basie and many others, born in St. Louis, Missouri.
