Mario Bauzá, Cuban trumpeter, by age 12 was a regular member of the Havana Philharmonic Orchestra (on bass clarinet), moved to the US in 1930 and switched to trumpet, did many recordings and performances, played lead with Chick Webb’s orchestra and Cab Calloway (1939-40), joined Machito and became his music director (1941-76), focused on music writing in the later part of his life, born in Cayo Hueso, Cuba.
