Allan Dean, American trumpeter, played in the Fred Waring show band (1960), drafted and played in the 25th Division Army Band, after service returned to NYC for a long career as one of the top freelancers in the city, playing in Broadway pit orchestras and on recordings, with the American Brass Quintet, the New York Brass Quintet (1966-1984), member of the Saint Louis Brass Quintet (starting in 1985), formed the New York Renaissance Band (changing name to Calliope), joined the New York Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, long teaching career at Western Connecticut State College, Hartt School of Music, North Carolina School of the Arts, Eastman, Manhattan School of Music, Indiana University and Yale University School of Music, born in Mason City, Iowa.
