“Cat” Anderson, American lead jazz trumpeter, one of the greatest high-note trumpeters of all time, brought up in an orphanage and played valve trombone in that band, as teenager played with the Carolina Cotton Pickers, played with Lionel Hampton, Erskine Hawkins, and Lucky Millinder, then hired by Duke Ellington–eventually becoming lead, performed many command performances, LA studio musician for television, wrote method in 1973, died of a brain tumor in Norwalk, California.
