Maynard Ferguson, renowned Canadian high-note trumpeter, played solos with the CBC Radio Orchestra by age 13, studied at the Montreal Conservatory, moved the U.S. in 1948 playing with Boyd Raeburn, Jimmy Dorsey and Charley Barnet, then played with Stan Kenton, winning Downbeat polls in 1950, 51, and 52, featured on Ed Sullivan, worked at Paramount Pictures studios (1953-56), formed his own band, then a sextet in the 1960s, moved to India in 1967, signed contract with CBS Records to form a jazz-rock big band in the UK and relocated to NYC in 1973, making many very popular albums in the 1970s, born in Verdun, Quebec, Canada.
