Tommy Turrentine, American jazz trumpeter, born into a musical family, brother of famed Stanley, played with Snookum Russell’s Band at age 16, joined Benny Carter’s band (but fired because he couldn’t sight read well), then played with George Hudson, Count Basie and Max Roach, lost prominence in the 1970s but made slight comeback in the 80s with Clarence Sharpe and Barry Harris and with Sun Ra, died in NYC.
