Gustav Metzdorff, German-born Russian cornetist, trumpeter, conductor, moved to Russia in 1847 to conduct the St. Petersburg Military Band (1847-48), cornet soloist in the Italian opera orchestra (1849-68), first brass professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory (1862-68), born in Wehlau, Germany.
