Trumpet Journey

This Day in History: 1894-05-19

Henry Busse, German cornetist and trumpeter, ran away from his family’s farm and traveled to New York working as a cornetist, moved to Los Angeles as a pit orchestra musician, formed dance band with Paul Whiteman in 1918 and played as featured soloist until he was fired over a jealous argument about Bix Beiderbecke getting more solos in the late 1920s, formed his own orchestra called Henry Busse and the Shuffle Rhythm Band (1928-55), possibly the most popular trumpeter from 1918-1928, born in Magdeburg, Germany.
