Red Rodney, American jazz trumpeter, played with many great bands while a teen during WWII, played in Gene Krupa’s band, played with Buddy Rich, Claude Thornhill, Woody Herman, Charlie Parker, pretended to be an albino black man in order to perform with Parker, jailed for heroin use, gave up drugs, played in pit orchestras in Las Vegas during 1960s, played in a quintet with Ira Sullivan, appeared on some television shows, died from lung cancer in Boynton Beach, Florida.
