Clora Bryant, American jazz trumpeter, played with the Sweethearts of Rhythm (1948-9), Jack McVea’s orchestra (all-female), the Sepia Tones, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie and Eric Dolphy, Louis Armstrong, Carl Perkins and Dexter Gordon, led her own quartet in 1957, played in show bands in Los Angeles, first woman jazz performer to tour the Soviet Union, given the Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz award (2002 and 2004), born in Denison, Texas.
