Rod Franks, British trumpeter, at 9 played in the Hammonds Junior Band, at 17 in the Black Dyke Mills Band, principal trumpet of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (1977-83), principal of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, member of the London Symphony Orchestra (principal in 1990), overcame deafness in one ear and Bell’s palsy to remain principal in the LSO, later coprincipal, trumpet teacher at Guildhall School of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, born in Shipley, England.
