Frank Motley, American jazz trumpeter, vocalist and drummer, studied with Dizzy Gillespie while young, after serving in the Navy in WWII, moved to NYC, learned to play two trumpets at the same time (earned nickname “Dual Trumpets”), formed a band called Motley Crew in 1949 which was very popular in the 1950s and early 60s, formed Frank Motley and the Hitch-Hikers, played with Lionel Hampton (1954) and Count Basie in the 1950s, died in Durham, North Carolina.
