Doc Cheatham, American jazz trumpeter, played in pit band for the Bijou Theatre in Nashville, played many famous early jazz groups, moved to NYC playing with Sam Wooding’s orchestra, and others, lead trumpet with Cab Calloway’s band, had some health problems in late 1930s, resumed playing with Teddy Wilson, and others, worked in many Latin bands and some Trad jazz bands in the late 1950s and 60s, member of Benny Goodman Quintet (1966-7), taught himself how to improvise in his 60s and became a great soloist, born in Nashville, Tennessee.
