1874 Mikhail Adamov, Russian cornetist and trumpeter. Prof. of trumpet at Moscow Conservatory from 1912 to 1932, born.

1874 Mikhail Adamov, Russian cornetist and trumpeter, principal at Mariinsky Theater Orch (1898-1902), principal of Imperial Theater Orch in Moscow, principal cornet of Bolshoi Theater Orch (1903-1946), important teacher, prof at Moscow Conservatory, born in Lopatkov, Russia, died in Moscow in 1946 on the same day.

1912 Gösta Törner, Swedish trumpeter and band leader, one of Sweden's leading jazz trumpeters, performed with Swedish All Stars at Paris Jazz Festival in 1949, led his own group, born in Stockholm, Sweden.

1917 Carl Warwick, American jazz trumpeter, began working with various big bands in NYC while a teenager, led an Army band during WWII, toured with bands of Woody Herman and Buddy Rich, recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, music director for the New York City Correctional Institution, Alabama hall of fame, born in Brookside, Alabama.

1929 Elmon Wright, American jazz trumpeter, father and brother were professional jazz trumpeters, played with Dizzy Gillespie's big band at 17, played with Roy Eldridge, toured with Earl Bostic, played with bands of Buddy Rich and Earle Warren, born in Kansas City, Missouri.

1946 Mikhail Adamov, Russian cornetist and trumpeter. Prof. of trumpet at Moscow Conservatory from 1912 to 1932, died.

1949 Jay Thomas, American trumpeter and sax player, struggled with drug addiction at early age but kicked habit with help of friends and family, performed and recorded with many artists, born in Seattle, Washington.

1954 Wendell Brunious, American jazz trumpeter, learned from his father, payed in Preservation Hall with Kid Thomas Valentine, played with Eureka Brass Band, worked with many jazz greats, born in New Orleans, Louisiana.

1961 Håkan Hardenberger, outstanding Swedish trumpet soloist, born in Malmö, Sweden

1961 Håkan Hardenberger, Swedish trumpeter, one of the greatest classical trumpet soloists of the world, famous soloist by age 20, champion of new (challenging) music, prof at Malmö Conservatory, born in Malmö, Sweden.

1964 Scotty Barnhart, American jazz trumpeter, received a Count Basie Scholarship, joined Marcus Roberts' band, played with Delfeayo Marsalis, joined Count Basie's orch in 1993, faculty at Florida State, born in Atlanta, Georgia.

1981 Louis Metcalf, American jazz trumpeter, played with Willie "the Lion" Smith, Sydney Bechet and Duke Ellington's Cotton Club Orchestra, backed many singers during the late 1920s, moved to Montreal, led small groups in NYC from 1950s to 1970s, died in NYC.

2009 Stacy Rowles, American trumpeter and singer, performed with Clark Terry, Maiden Voyage, DIVA, Swinging Ladies, toured Europe many times with Witchcraft, died in Burbank, California.
