Doc Severinsen, American trumpeter, one of the most popular trumpeters of the 1970s and 80s, won cornet contest at age 12, formed his own dance band at 17, as senior in high school toured a great deal with Ted Fio Rito’s orchestra, formed a band in the Army during WWII, then played in bands of Sam Donahue, Benny Goodman, Charlie Barnet, Vaughn Monroe, Tommy Dorsey and Noro Morales, moved to NYC and joined NBC studios, became lead trumpet in Skitch Henderson’s band for Steve Allen’s Tonight Show, continued under Johnny Carson as assistant conductor and soloist, recorded many albums, became a pops conductor after Carson, recorded the abblasen fanfare for CBS Sunday Morning, born in Arlington, Oregon.
