Fats Navarro, American trumpeter born in Cuba, played in Snookum Russell’s band at 17, played in the Andy Kirk Orchestra then Billy Eckstine’s big band, established himself with the Bebop Boys, Coleman Hawkins, Kenny Clarke, Charlie Parker and many others, taught Miles Davis and Clifford Brown, died from tuberculosis and addiction to heroin at age 26 in NYC.
