1900 Thomas Ladnier, American jazz trumpeter, played with Charlie Creath (1921), Milton Vasser (1921), Ollie Powers (1923), recorded with many artists, played with Lovie Austin's Blue Serenaders (1924-5), toured Europe twice with Sam Woodling's Chocolate Kiddies, played in Fletcher Henderson's big band (1926-7), formed his own band in France (1930), formed the New Orleans Feetwarmers, drank heavily in his 30s and had spotty success, born in Florenceville, Louisiana.

1920 Don Jacoby, American trumpeter, soloist at Carnegie Hall when teenager, member of Les Brown's orchestra, joined Navy during WWII, played with Benny Goodman, musician with ABC, NBC and CBS studios, clinician for C.G. Conn Company, author of Jake's Method, born in York, Pennsylvania.

1938 Heinz Becker, German jazz trumpeter, played with the Manfred Ludwig Sextet (1962-5), Gunther Gollasch Big Band (1965), member of the Berlin Radio Dance Orchestra (1965), formed the Heinz Becker Quintet during the 1980s, born in Dresden, Germany.

1946 Claudio Roditi, Brazilian jazz trumpeter, composer and arranger, performed with Bob Mover, Charlie Rouse, Herbie Mann, Paquito D'Rivera, Tito Puente and many others, noted for his flugel playing, born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

1961 Leslie Linn, American trumpeter, 2nd in The Phoenix Symphony, principal in the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, principal of the Bilbao Symphony (Spain), born in Topeka, Kansas.

1963 Eckhard Schmidt, principal of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, principal of the Hamburg State Opera Orchestra, teacher at the Musikhochschule in Hamburg, born in Stuttgart, Germany.

1966 Guy Ferber, French trumpeter, specialist in Baroque trumpet, won 1st prize in the Altenburg competition for baroque trumpet in Bad Säckingen, professor at the National Music School in Colmar, founded the ensemble Le Concert Royal, born in Colmar, Alsace, France.

1967 Johann Plietzsch, German trumpeter, founded the Berlin Baroque Trumpet Ensemble, teacher at the Domasingschule of St. Hedwig's Cathedral in Berlin, born in Berlin, Germany.

1969 James Ackley, American trumpeter, member of the Bogotá Philharmonic (1996-2001), professor at at the University of South Carolina (2007), born in Cincinnati, Ohio.

1971 Kevin Cobb, American trumpeter, top freelance trumpeter in NYC, member of the American Brass Quintet (since 1998), teacher at Yale, Indiana and Juilliard, born in Bowling Green, Ohio.

2011 Manfred Moch, German trumpeter, played with Ladi Geisler and the orchestras of Bert Kaempfert and James Last, composed the hit song Monte Carlo, member of the North German Radio Big Band in Hamburg (1960-90), died on this day.
