Alessandro Gambati, Italian trumpeter and cornetist, performed with his brother Antonio as the Gambati brothers, played keyed trumpet and trumpet with keys and valves, played in the Opéra Italian in Paris and premiered Meyerbeer’s Robert le diable on valve trumpets, played at the King’s Theatre in London (not favorably reviewed), Alessandro immigrated to America and was known as a soloist, did contest with English slide trumpeter, John Thompson Norton, before 4000 in 1834, performed as soloist in New Orleans, born in Italy on this day.
