Alessandro Gambati, Italian trumpeter and cornetist, performed with his brother Antonio as the Gambati brothers, played keyed trumpet and trumpet with keys and valves, played in the OpĂ©ra Italian in Paris and premiered Meyerbeer’s Robert le diable on valve trumpets, played at the King’s Theatre in London (not favorably reviewed), Alessandro immigrated to America and was known as a soloist, did contest with English slide trumpeter, John Thompson Norton, before 4000 in 1834, performed as soloist in New Orleans, born in Italy on this day.
