Thad Jones, American jazz cornetist, joined his older brother’s jazz group (the Arcadia Club Band), served in the Army during WWII, then played with, and later led, the Charles Young jazz band, joined the Billy Mitchell Jazz Quintet with his younger brother, Elvin (drums), joined Charles Mingus’ Jazz Composers Workshop (1954), Count Basie’s Orchestra (1954-63), with Mel Lewis formed a big band that toured the world for 14 years, moved to Denmark to conduct the Danish Radio Orchestra and played in the Thad Jones Eclipse band, took over the Count Basie Orchestra for one year, died in Copenhagen, Denmark.
