This Day in History: 1928-08-21

Art Farmer, important American jazz trumpeter, twin brother of bassist Addison Farmer, moved to LA and worked with Horace Henderson, and many others in that area, played with Lionel Hampton, Clifford Brown, Gigi Gryce, Horace Silver, and Gerry Mulligan in the 1950s, co-led the Jazztet with Benny Golson, changed to flugelhorn, played in quartet with guitarist Jim Hall, led his own quintet in 1965, played in Jimmy Heath’s band, moved to Vienna and joined the Austrian Radio Orchestra, born in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
