Mel Broiles, American trumpeter, one of the greatest American opera trumpeters, played in the West Point Band, played in Broadway shows, played in numerous live radio broadcasts in NYC, principal of the Met Opera Orch (1955-6), principal with Philadelphia (1956-7), then returned as principal with the Met (1957-2001), taught at the Juilliard School, Mannes and Manhattan School of Music, wrote numerous trumpet books, known for his humorous antics, died in NYC.
