Sydney Baker, American trumpeter, born Sidney Beckerman, played in Leopold Stokowski’s All-American Youth Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, at 19, principal of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, during WWII performed in Army corps bands and the Air Force Symphony Orchestra, then back to the CSO as principal (to 1948), played with the Radio City Music Hall orchestra, the NBC Symphony and various Broadway show bands, the Goldman Band, died on this day.
