Leonard B. Smith, American cornetist and trumpeter, attended the Ernest Williams School of Music, played with the Marlborough Symphony Orchestra, at 19 was soloist in Edwin Franko Goldman’s band, principal of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, soloist in the U.S. Navy Band in Washington, DC in 1942, played with the Long Beach Municipal Band under Herbert L. Clarke and returned to the Detroit Symphony, founded his own concert band in Detroit (conducting and soloing from 1946 to 1991), conductor of the Blossom Festival Concert Band in Cleveland, taught at Wayne State Univ., director of bands at the Univ. of Detroit, member of ABA, wrote 450 original band works, born in Poughkeepsie, New York.
