Gene Roland, American jazz trumpeter, joined Stan Kenton orch. as 5th tpt (later trombone and/or mellophone) and arranger, worked with bands of Lionel Hampton and Lucky Millinder, played piano, composed and arranged for combo with Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, Jimmy Giuffre and Herbie Steward, played trumpet with Claude Thornhill, Count Basie, Charlie Barnet and Artie Shaw, often arranged and composed on touring bus (because he had perfect pitch), considered a model of jazz composing and arranging, but thought as an irresponsible and forgetful, born in Dallas, Texas.
