Flip Oakes, American trumpeter and designer, at 12 joined his father’s Dixieland band, opened his own Olean Instrument Band and Repair Service (1st in New York, then in Oceanside, California), played with many traditional jazz bands and combos, several as leader, designed the Flip Oakes “Wild Thing” trumpet, born in Olean, New York.
