Bill Dixon, American trumpeter, composer and visual artist, enlisted in Army during WWII, studied trumpet under the G.I. Bill, played in the Tommy Roberts Band in Alaska and founded the U.N. Jazz Society, member of the New York Contemporary Five, produced the six “October Revolution” concerts at NYC’s Cellar Café, received the Jazz Pioneer Award in 1984, born in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
