Thomas Paine, American designer and maker, worked as a watchmaker and repairer, became brass instrument maker in 1840, moved to Boston to work for E.G. Wright Company, learning to make keyed trumpets and bugles, opened his own brass instrument shop in 1842 in Woonsocket, made a few important inventions, born in Foster, Rhode Island.
