Al Killian, American jazz trumpeter, played with the big bands of Claude Hopkins, Count Basie (1940-3), Lionel Hampton (1945), led own band, toured with Norman Granz’s Jazz at the Philharmonic, known for powerful high register, joined Duke Ellington Orchestra (1948-50), born in Birmingham, Alabama.
