Hale A. VanderCook, American cornetist, played in several local bands, at 27 became conductor of the J.H. LaPearl Circus Band, took lessons from A.F. Weldon in Chicago, purchased Weldon’s home, school and studios to open the VanderCook Cornet School which was so successful that he expanded and hired more teachers and renamed to VanderCook School of Music and then VanderCook College of Music, now located on Federal Street in Chicago, composed many educational solos, died in Allegen, Michigan.
