This Day in History: 1856-10-24

Thomas Short, Australian cornetist, soloist with the Talbot Band in Victoria, at 18 led the Hamilton Band, soloed with the Melbourne Band and the Cooper & Bailey Show, came to the U.S. in 1878 at 22, directed the 69th, 71st and 13th Regiment bands (and cornet soloist with each), leader of the Clapp’s Band, cornet soloist and assistant conductor of Innes’ band, leader of the 2nd Regiment Band in Springfield, born in Melbourne, Australia.
