Maurice Murphy, British trumpeter and cornetist, one of the greatest musicians in England, at 12 was All-Junior Champion as cornetist, joined the Harton Colliery and Crook Hall Colliery bands, played with the Yorkshire Engineering and Welding Band, principal cornet of the Black Dyke Mills Band (1956-61), principal of the BBC Northern Symphony Orch., principal of the London Symphony Orch., (1977-2007), ITG Honorary Award (2008), Member of the Order of the British Empire (2010), died in London, England.
