Mike Vax, American trumpeter, played in the Berkeley Young People’s Symphony and then was invited to sit in the Stan Kenton Band while in high school, while in college played with the Stockton Symphony, Stockton Municipal Band and the Sacramento Opera, and formed his own jazz quintet, joined the US Navy Band as lead player of the Navy Show Band in South America, joined the Stan Kenton Band as lead trumpet and road manager, played with the Dukes of Dixieland, then Clark Terry’s Big Band, led his own band, formed a trumpet-centric group Calle TRPTS, clinician for Yamaha, then Getzen, born in Oakland, California.
