Buddy Bolden, American early jazz cornetist, the father of jazz, joined Charley Galloway’s string band then formed his own very successful string band (later led up to six different groups in 1890s), led the Buddy. Bolden Band (later the Eagle Band), led his own brass band on parades, in 1906 began to experience mental health problems, from 1907 lived in the East Louisiana State Hospital until his death in Jackson, Louisiana.
