Arturo Sandoval, Cuban trumpeter, pianist and composer, played in various bands while young, drafted into military, playing in the Orquesta Cuban des Musica Moderna, after service, he formed band with Paquito D’Rivera called Irakere, which was very popular and toured internationally, left to form his own band which featured his own playing, toured internationally with Dizzy Gillespie, requested and received asylum in the U.S. while in Rome, became prof at Florida International Univ, recorded many successful albums, played during halftime ceremony at Super Bowl XXIX, multi-Grammy winner, and Emmy Awardee, born in Artemisa, Cuba.
