Al Hirt, American jazz trumpeter, biggest celebrity trumpeter in 1960s, played in the 82nd Army Air Force Band during WWII, played with jazz bands of Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey and Ray McKinley, staff musician for New Orleans radio station, recorded first with Monk Hazel (1955), played with Pete Fountain, worked at nightclub on Bourbon Street called Dan’s Pier 600, played in Chicago then in Las Vegas, became celebrity with some very large-selling albums, then opened his own nightclub in New Orleans, appeared on many movies, characterized his own playing as pop, born in New Orleans, Louisiana.
