This Day in History: 1994-11-07

Shorty Rogers, American jazz trumpeter, played with Red Norvo’s orchestra, served in the 379th A.S.F. Band during WWII, joined Woody Herman’s First Herd (as trumpeter and arranger), then with Charlie Barnet and Butch Stone, in 1949 played with the Second Herd (composing many popular tunes), then member of Stan Kenton’s Innovations Orchestra (also composing many important tunes), moved to LA in 1951 (playing with the Lighthouse All-Stars, Shorty Rogers and the Giants and as studio artist), arranged music for movies, died in Van Nuys, California.
